We are starting to carefully take apart the deck. All plants have been covered with plastic to protect them as best as possible.

The roof overhang is supported on the left and the right side so we can start removing the four columns. We are going to try to save the columns, the handrails and the balusters, but we’ll know more about their condition as we continue working. We’ll take them to the mill or lumber yard to match them up in order to come as close as possible if they have to be replaced to maintain the historic qualities of the property.

Upon completion of taking down the columns and the side railings (the rest of the railing system will be removed as well), we started taking up the decking, which will be properly disposed of.

Located at the front of the house, we are going to prep, prime and paint the body (cedar shingles), the trim work of the windows and the shutters.

The gutters are aluminum and will not be painted. The shutters are wood and would be prepped and painted the existing color. Any metal on the house (like the shutter holdbacks) would be prepped, primed and painted as well. At the front of the house, there are two basement windows and five double-hung windows and then a front door.

On the right-hand side of the house (chimney side), there are two eyebrow windows (one on the left and one on the right of the chimney). There are three double-hung windows and two older windows and to the right of the chimney on the first floor, there are three brand new windows. There is a door on the right that would be prepped, primed and painted. The staircase and the woodwork for the railings, etc. would all be prepped, primed and painted the homeowner’s desired color. There are some vents and some gray boxes on this side of the house. We’ll try to prep, prime and paint those as best as possible to blend those into the body of the house. Some of the wiring on the left-hand side will need to be neatened, cleaned and tightened up. Right now it’s loose so we’ll have it tightened up when we finish painting. The chimney itself, after the mason has worked on it, will be prepped, primed and painted with the appropriate masonry primer and paint.

At the rear of the house that faces the driveway, there is a door on the 2nd floor on the right-hand side that leads out to the deck. There are also five double-hung windows (six including the one in the screen porch) and a second door in the screen porch.

On the left-hand side of the house, on the 3rd floor level, there is a circular window with the gable trim. There is the cedar-shingle body and then there are the five double-hung windows and a side door with two basement windows.

All around the house, the foundation is to be prepped, primed and painted reddish color that is there presently.

There are four windows on a newer addition that do not need to be prepped, primed, and painted on the outside. The mullions are plastic and the windows are vinyl. The rest of the body of the house, the rakeboards, the fascia boards, and all of the trim around the seven panels on the screen room will be prepped, primed and painted.
